July 24, 1990 — The cost of a new county landfill is estimated at $1.2 to $1.5 million over a two-year period, according to County Administrator Ron Wilson. The figures include development of the landfill but do not include the actual cost of land. The Virginia Department of Waste Management recently stated that the cost per acre of a new landfill is around $300,000. The landfill must be in operation by July 1, 1992.
“A closure plan of engineering studies to close the old landfill will have to be done prior to Dec. 31 of this year,” said Page County Board of Supervisors Chairman Robert Good of District 5. “That will cost between $30,000 and $40,000.”
The present landfill located in Stanley will cost over $200,000 to close, according to Wilson. The facility must be closed between July 1 and Dec. 31, 1992.
