Leonard “Buster” Lucas Jr., 79, of Stanley, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
He was born on December 25, 1945, in Stanley and was a son of the late Leonard Lucas Sr. and Posie Lucas.
Buster had worked in the maintenance department at James Madison University and spent many years working with his brothers in landscaping, seeding, sodding and grading. He was a member of the Calvary Independent Brethren Church in Stanley.
Buster was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
On October 7, 1972, Buster married Naomi Virginia Dallas Lucas, who died on December 27, 2021.
He is survived by a son, Danny Ray Lucas and wife Angie of Stanley; three brothers, Walter Lucas of Luray, and Jerry Lucas and Ricky Lucas, both of Stanley; eight sisters, Doris Cubbage of Shenandoah, and Peggy Sellers, Bonnie Lawson, Frances Thomson, Betty Kay Good, Patsy Comer, Faye Jenkins and Sarah Rivera, all of Stanley; and one grandchild, Madison.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dale Riley Lucas; and a brother, Ronnie Lucas.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, at the Calvary Independent Brethren Church.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, at the church by Pastor Charles Turner and Pastor Josh Parlett. Burial will be in the Calvary Independent Brethren Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hahn Cancer Center or to the Calvary Independent Brethren Church.
