HARRISONBURG, Sept. 19 — After finishing third among Class 2 teams at the Bull Run District golf tournament on Tuesday at Heritage Oaks Golf Course, the Luray golf team has now advanced to the Region 2B tournament on Monday.
“This has seriously been a five-year dig, a claw, a climb, to have a TEAM spot for the Bulldogs!” LHS golf coach Gwen Burley posted on social media on Tuesday.
“I am kind of in shock…am surprised…but sooo stinking proud of every kid on this team!” Burley stated. “They have been putting in the time and effort and have really pushed and supported each other all season!”
Luray’s Cameron Weaver lead the Bulldogs by carding an 88 at the district tournament, earning him second team All-District honors. Austin Lam shot a 92.
Mountain View claimed the regular season district golf title, but came in second in the tournament with a team score of 356. (Team scores comprised of top six golfers.) Clarke County won the tournament with a 352. Rappahannock carded a third-place 370, but they will advance on the Class 1 level.
Luray posted a 375 — beating out Madison, Central, Strasburg and Page for a ticket to the Region B tournament on Monday, Sept. 25, once again at Heritage Oaks in Harrisonburg.
Madison County’s Cai Clark shot the low score for the Bull Run District golf tournament at 75. Mountain View’s Stuart Pirtle carded a 79.
