Age 82, Shenandoah, Va.

Lt. Col. Robert H. Moore, 82, of Shenandoah, Virginia, passed from this life, at home, in Shipwreck Farms, Page County, on Monday, March 23, 2026. His loving wife of nearly 33 years, Bonnie Stanley Moore, was with him when he passed.

Bob was born October 15, 1943, in Shenandoah, Virginia, to Robert F. Moore and Pauline “Polly” Emerson. He later had a very special bond with his stepfather, H.W. “Bill” Bricker.

Bob led a life that left many stories to be told. From his early life he would recount warm tales of his great grandmother, Mary “Molly” Moore, and of his grandparents Edward “Pop” and Mamie “Nanny” Emerson, also of Shenandoah. There were also little anecdotes, about such things as spending time at his Uncle and Aunt Crouch’s home, on Naked Creek, and of slipping down for a delicious piece of apple pie, from the “Y”, in Shenandoah, where he was referred to as “Little Blinky”, after his great grandfather, John Howard Moore. He enjoyed the outdoors and sports through his youth, attending the old Shenandoah High School, and graduating from Page County High School, in 1962. He continued playing baseball for a season at Western Carolina University before returning home, and marrying Patricia Hilliard, in 1963, with whom he had two sons, Bob and Dax.

After running the B&M Variety Store in Shenandoah, Bob enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1967, which took him through a range of experiences across the globe for the next 30 years. From 1970-71, Bob served with the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing in Vietnam, where he earned a Navy Commendation Medal with V for Valor, among other awards. After returning to the States, he served at Quantico, where he was also promoted to Warrant Officer. Continuing in “Mustanger” fashion, Bob eventually retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Among the highlights of his career was his time with the Presidential Helicopter Squadron during the Reagan Administration, especially during Reagan’s attendance of the 40th anniversary of D-Day. His twilight tour in the Corps, in Okinawa, with Bonnie, was especially memorable. On retiring, he earned the distinguished Legion of Merit for outstanding service.

Returning to Page, Bob worked for a time with the Page County (Virginia) Sheriff’s Office, and as a military contractor (C.A.C.I), which included time in the Middle East.

While most definitely a Marine’s Marine, he also spent memorable years with family, leaving many memories in the hearts and minds of those he leaves behind. Yet, even in retirement, there was heartbreak in losing dear stepdaughter, Edwina Tanzi, and step-grandson, Andrew Good.

Bonnie wishes to extend special recognition to grandson, Tripp Moore, and special nephew, Brint Holeman.

In keeping with Robert’s wishes, there will be no formal services.

Arrangements are being handled by the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton, Va.
