WASHINGTON, D.C., July 30 — Superintendent Jeff Reinbold has announced that Chad Tinney [of Luray] will be the next deputy superintendent of National Mall and Memorial Parks. Tinney is currently chief of commercial services for the National Park Service’s National Capital Region in Washington. He will assume his new role on the National Mall on August 11.
“We are thrilled to welcome Chad as the new deputy superintendent of the National Mall,” said Superintendent Jeff Reinbold of National Mall and Memorial Parks. “With an impressive background in operations spanning both the National Park Service and the private sector, Chad brings a wealth of experience and a unique perspective to our team. We look forward to the innovative leadership and fresh insights he will bring to the National Mall.”
Tinney is a 14-year National Park Service employee and comes to the park most recently from the National Park Service’s National Capital Regional Office in Washington, where he has served as chief of commercial services since 2016. He was acting superintendent of Big Bend National Park in Texas in 2024 and has served in concessions management positions for the National Park Service at Shenandoah National Park in Virginia and Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. Additionally, he has managed commercial concessions operations at Big Bend National Park in Texas and Isle Royale National Park in Michigan, and owned and managed commercial operations in a gateway community at Big Bend.
“I am deeply honored and excited to join the dedicated team at the National Mall as the next deputy superintendent,” said Tinney. “This iconic space holds a special place in the hearts of Americans and visitors from around the world and I look forward to collaborating with the talented staff, volunteers, and partners who work tirelessly to honor the legacy of this remarkable place and ensure it remains a source of inspiration and pride for generations to come.”
As deputy superintendent, Tinney will direct day-to-day operations for the National Mall, which includes 16 units of the National Park System and draws over 35 million visitors a year. His responsibilities include administration, facility management, interpretation and education, partnerships, permits management, professional services, and resource management.
The National Mall’s annual operational budget is $35 million and 250 employees are employed at the park. He succeeds Sean Kennealy, who retired after 33 years with the National Park Service.
