Mari Evelyn Waters Sours, 72, of Luray, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Winchester Medical Center.
She was born on January 23, 1952, in Luray and was a daughter of the late Oliver Elwood Waters Sr. and Lois Katherine Miller Waters.
Mari Evelyn retired from Shenandoah County Public Schools, with 40 years of service, working as the gifted and talented resource specialist. She was a member of the Morning Star Lutheran Church, Edith Rebekah Lodge #93, and Page County 4-H. She was also a board member with the Multiple Sclerosis Alliance of Virginia.
On July 18, 1992, she married Rex Sours, who survives.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a brother, Oliver Elwood “J.R.” Waters Jr. and wife Wilma of Luray; a sister, Patsy Regina Sours of Luray; brother-in-law Harlen “Jr.” Sours (Cheryl); and sister-in-law Pam Nichols. She is also survived by nephews Brandon Waters (Dawn), Matthew Waters (Crystal), Duane Sours and Luke Sours; nieces Mari Cathern Brown (Bryan) and Faith Sours Dean (JL); and two very special great nieces who brought her so much joy, Olivia and Brynlee. She was preceded in death by her brothers-in-law, Steven “Sally” Sours and Larry Nichols.
Mari Evelyn will be fondly remembered for the laughter and joy she brought to her family, friends and nearly everyone she interacted with. She found laughter to be the best medicine. Despite all her health issues, she still found a way to smile and make others smile along with her.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 13, at the Bradley Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, at the Morning Star Lutheran Church by Pastor Josh Parlett and Pastor Robert Griffith. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Multiple Sclerosis Alliance of Virginia in her memory.
