February 5, 1891 — If the weather now continues favorable our place will soon liven up and everything will be business and bustle.
The Ochre Bank shut down a few weeks ago on account of bad weather, but will resume business this week.
Several of the members of the Lexington Building Company were at Stanley last week making arrangements to begin the erection of houses as soon as the weather opens up.
The Stanley Furnace and Land Company made all the payments that were due last week, which means several thousand dollars in our community. The company has been very prompt under the management of Col. T.J. McSpeiden. Col. McSpeiden has just completed another store room, and walled it underneath with some very fine sandstone which is found on the company’s land.
Mr. James M. Good has moved into his new brick house at Stanley.
Mr. Thos. Nauman, of the firm of Nauman and Spitler, is doing a thriving business in the flour and feed line at Stanley.
Mr. Benton Shenk has moved from Marksville to Stanley.
Mr. C.F. Foote is having his house nicely painted with fine hard oil finish inside.
Mr. Samuel Nauman’s wife died on last Wednesday at her home at Pine Grove of spinal meningitis.
One day last week some of Mr. J.P. Grave’s pupils killed a snake that had crawled out to sun itself at Bethlehem School House; this is the first snake of the season.
Mr. Frank Weekly says that 81 inches of snow has fallen on the Blue Ridge so far this winter.
Mr. Thos. Bailey, who has been so ill for some time, is rapidly improving.
