Mary Eva Hager Dodd was born October 17, 1936, on a farm near Esmond, North Dakota, and passed away on March 27, 2025, in Staunton, Virginia. She was the 12th child and fourth daughter of Gabriel Hager and Anne (Bertsch) Hager.
Seeking better opportunity after graduating high school, Mary joined the U.S. Women’s Army Corp and was stationed at Ft. Belvoir in Virginia. She was honorably discharged.
Mary had five children: Ryan Henigan, Jackie Gault, Janet (Chris) Jensen, Marshall (Freda) Dodd and Troy (Olga) Dodd.
She had a successful career as an executive assistant in both government and private sectors and spent her remaining years living in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.
Mary is survived by four of her five children, her sister Annie Meier, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, at the Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery in Luray. She will be interred beside her beloved son Marshall, who predeceased her in December of 2012.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Lake Arrowhead following the graveside service.
A kind and generous person, Mary will be greatly missed by those who knew her and her family that loves her very much.
