Mary Virginia Frye Payton, 83, of Luray, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025, at her home.
She was born on May 8, 1942, in Luray and was the daughter of the late Maceo Frye and Edna Tutt Frye.
Mary was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Luray.
On May 9, 1964, she married Winfield Garland Payton Jr., who died on June 2, 2011.
Mary is survived by her loving sons, Jerry, Jimmy, Donald and Ronald, simply known to the family as Brother, all of Luray; two sisters, Connie Cubbage of Elkton, and Betty Hendricks of Florida; three stepchildren, Phyllis, Terry and Milton Payton; three grandchildren, Michael Payton, Samantha Simmons and Victoria Jenkins; two great-grandchildren, Jesse James Majors V and Magnolia Majors; two step great-grandchildren, Dom Quin and Joseph Gray Jr.; a special cousin, Vicky Veney; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by two sisters, Louella Brown and Josephine Turner; two brothers-in-law, Freeman Hendricks and Frankie Cubbage; one grandchild, Malcolm Payton; and a special cousin, Peggy Lewis.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 15, at the Bethel Baptist Church by Pastor Stephanie Callwood. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Luray.
Arrangements are being handled by The Bradley Funeral Home in Luray, Va.
