Nancy Jean Reed Bauserman, 73, of Luray, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2024.

Nancy was the daughter of the late Milford and Jean (Frye) Reed of Luray. She was born on February 9, 1951 in La Crosse, Wisconsin. She grew up in many countries around the world including Pakistan/Bangladesh, South Korea, Morocco and Kenya. 

Nancy graduated from Fort Hunt High School in Alexandria, VA, in 1968. She then attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, where she graduated with a degree in teaching in 1971. She taught for several years in South Dakota, Iowa and Illinois after graduating college. She helped start the Federal Head Start program for early childhood education. 

While visting her parents in Virginia one summer she met the love of her life, Mark Bauserman, and they were married the following November.

Nancy taught at Springfield Elementary, teaching fourth grade and then history. Knowing the importance of early childhood education she helped write curriculum and start the Preschool at the St. Mark Lutheran Church and she also started and taught the Page County Public Schools VPI program. She earned her Master Degree in Administration from James Madison University in 1996 and then became the principal at Grove Hill Elementary until her retirement in 2007.

Nancy devoted her life to education and was a beloved teacher who inspired many students through believing in them and sparking a love of history by bringing history to life in her classroom.

She was also a member of the St. Mark Lutheran Church, the Garden Club, the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century and the John Rhodes Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by her husband, Mark; their seven children, Erik Bauserman and wife Jennifer of Lebenon Church, Mark Andrew Bauserman and wife Aude of Luray, Martin Bauserman and wife Nga of Strasburg, William Bauserman and wife Erica of Chesterfield, Kathleen Keim and husband Nash of Luray, Thomas Bauserman and wife Hannah of Luray, and Rachel Bauserman of Luray; and nine grandchildren, Noah Bauserman, Noah Cook, Lillia Bauserman, Evelynn Bauserman, Allie Bauserman, Benjamin Bauserman, Otto Keim, Archie Keim and Lana Bauserman. She is also survived by her brother, Mark Reed and wife Nancy of Luray; her sister, Judy Dysart and husband Kevin of Woodstock; a sister-in law, Sue Fulghum; and beloved nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Leslie Ann Reed and Bonnie Kathleen Reed; and her brothers-in-law, Gary Bauserman and Tom Fulghum.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution to please donate to Springfield Elementary’s Field Trip Fund. Nancy was a avid supporter of taking students on field trips and exposing her students to as many experiences as possible. Contributions to this fund will help continue her legacy at Springfield. Mail donations to Springfield Elementary at 158 Big Springs Ln, Rileyville, VA 22650, please be sure to label them “Field Trip Fund.”

A funeral will be held at the St. Mark Lutheran Church on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 10 a.m., with a graveside service to follow.
