November brings above average rain, but annual rainfall still 13.3 inches below average

STANLEY, Dec. 4 — Total rainfall for the month of November was 3.08 inches, or 0.12 inch above the November average of 2.96 inches. Measurable rain was recorded on five days during the month. The 55-year average is eight days. The calendar year–to–date rainfall is now 24.03 inches — or 13.33 inches below average.

The wettest November was in 1985 with 7.26 inches of rain. The driest occurred in 1981, with 0.74 inch of rain recorded.

Valley temperatures for November were near average. The mean temperature for the month was 46.1 degrees, or 0.2 above the 55-year average mean temperature of 46.3 degrees. The average afternoon high temperature for the month was 57.3 degrees, or 1.1 degrees above the average high of 56.2 degrees.

High temperatures for November climbed above the 70-degree mark on three days, the 60s on 10 days, the 50s on nine days, the 40s on seven days and only in the 30s on one day during the month. The high for the month was 79 degrees on Nov. 9.

The warmest November on record was in 2001, where the average afternoon high was 64.2 degrees. The coolest November was in 1995, where the average afternoon high was only 49.5 degrees.

The average daily low temperature for the month was 34.9 degrees — or 1.5 degrees below the 55-year average low of 36.4 degrees. Low temperatures for the month were down into the teens on one day, the 20s on seven days, the 30s on 15 days, the 40s on five days, the 50s on two days during the month. The low for the month was 16 degrees on Nov. 29.

The peak wind gust for the month was 31 mph recorded on Nov. 26.

Several records were broken during November:

• Nov. 1 — low temperature of 29 degrees; previous record of 31 degrees in 2002.
• Nov. 2 — low temperature of 22 degrees; previous record of 26 degrees in 1993.
• Nov. 9 — high temperature of 79 degrees; previous record of 77 degrees in 1975.
• Nov. 21 — single day rain of 2.36 inches; previous record of 1.10 inches in 2005.

Other statistics for the month include:

• 25 clear to partly cloudy days (18 avg.)
• Five cloudy to mostly cloudy days (12 avg.)
• Four days with dew (six avg.)
• 13 days with frost (eight avg.)
• Two days with fog (two avg.)
• No days with a thundershower (zero avg.)
