Page County picks up first win, 62-47, over Mt. View

SHENANDOAH, Dec. 21 — The Page County boys basketball team shot over 52 percent from the floor in the first half and cruised to a 62-47 Bull Run District win over visiting Mt. View on Thursday night.

Seven different Panthers put up points, as Page knocked down six three-pointers and hit 10-of-16 from the free throw line. Page County was lead by sophomore Isaac Foltz, who scored 11 of his team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter. In fact, Foltz scored ALL 11 points the Panthers posted in the final frame.

Page opened up with a 19-10 run in the first eight minutes, hitting 8-of-15 from the field and getting three consecutive buckets from junior Ace Campbell. The Generals only hit 30 percent from the floor in the first quarter, but picked up the pace in the second behind the strong play of senior Johnny Hasley.

Hasley scored seven of Mt. View’s 10 points in the first frame, eight of 12 points in the second, and 10 of 12 in the third. He went cold in the fourth, as the entire team only shot 3-for-12 from the field in the fourth. Hasley posted a game-high 29 points. As a team, Mt. View hit only 33 percent of their shots on the night.

The Panthers lead 35-22 at the half, and widened the gap to 51-34 heading into the final frame, when Page substituted freely. The Panthers only hit two buckets in the fourth, but went 8-for-10 from the free throw line in the second half. Campbell finished the night with 12 points, while senior Seth Cloude added 10.

Page County’s 62 points was its second-hight total for the season — putting up 63 in an overtime loss to Turner Ashby on Dec. 15 at home. Six of Page’s losses have been to Class 3 teams. Next up, the Panthers (1-7) will travel to Strasburg for a holiday tournament on Dec. 27-30.

Mt. View (1-7) will travel to Riverheads for a holiday tournament Dec. 28-29.
