NOKESVILLE, June 30 — Shenandoah’s Julian “Jules” Painter earned the Most Valuable Player award during the Bath Ruth 12 Major/60 state tournament in Nokesville. The young ace pitched a complete game shutout in the championship game, with 12 strikeouts and no walks. He completed the six-inning victory in only 72 pitches.
The 12 Major/60 boys from Shenandoah went 4-0 in pool play during the state tournament from Thursday, June 27 through Saturday, June 29. Then on Sunday, June 30, as the tournament’s No. 1 seed, Shenandoah shut out Brentsville, 6-0, in the title game.
After winning the state championship, the Shenandoah 12 Major/60 all stars earned a spot in the 50/70 state tournament in Herndon. Despite their 1-2 mark in the second tournament, the Shenandoah team earned the 2024 Major/70 Don Rose Memorial Sportsmanship Award.
The 12 Major/60 all stars played eight games in nine days, with a final record of 6-2 — and a state championship.
