QUICKSBURG, Sept. 26 — The Page County Panthers have now stacked up back-to-back wins to even out the 2024-2025 season at .500. After an 0-2 start at home with lop-sided losses to Bath and East Rockingham, Page narrowly defeated King & Queen on the road Sept. 20, and then handled the Generals of Stonewall Jackson on the road, 27-12, last Thursday.

Senior running back Kenseth Tharp had a big night for the Panthers, scoring three touchdowns against the Generals. Tharp would finish the night with 78 yards on 14 carries (5.6 ypc). Page County was lead on the ground by senior Ace Campbell with 88 yards on 20 carries (4.4 ypc).

The Panthers’ opening 59-yard drive was capped off by a 1-yard touchdown by Tharp. The 15-play drive took more than 8 minutes and gave Page the early, 6-0 lead with 1:35 left in the first quarter. Stonewall would answer back on the ensuing drive, going 63 yards on 10 plays. Junior Carlos Garcia-Romero went in fro two yards out to tie the game at 6-6 with 7:49 left in the first half.

After a tough goal line stand by the Generals, they would decide to risk a 4th-down-and-three at their own 15-yard line. The incomplete pass left 58 seconds on the clock, and a few plays later Page would score again on another 1-yard touchdown by Tharp. The Panthers lead 14-6 at halftime.

Stonewall quarterback Shreejee Patel hit German Salinas Ortiz on a 56-yard touchdown pass with 4:29 left in the third quarter to close the gap to 14-12. Patel would finish the night 5-of-14, with 126 yards passing and one touchdown. Salinas Ortiz had 117 yards on four receptions and one touchdown.

Page County’s final two scores came in the fourth quarter. Sophomore Daniel Gibson took a reverse 28 yards into the end zone for a 20-12 lead with 7:51 left in the game. Tharp would also find the end zone one more time — this time on a 32-yard run.

The Page defense shut down the Generals’ ground game, as Stonewall’s leading rusher Garcia-Romero only picked up 38 yards on 20 carries (1.9 ypc). Both teams were penalized a combined 22 times, with Page receiving a dozen.

Up next, Page County (2-2) will host Rocktown (0-4) with an opportunity to string together three wins on the season this Friday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. Despite carrying nearly a 40-player roster, the Valley District’s Rocktown is still searching for its first win, after dropping two at home and two on the road to Hegesville (36-13), Moorefield (37-14), Riverheads (48-6) and Lord Botetourt.

Stonewall Jackson will be hosting the Virginia Spartans this Friday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
