Paulina Polly Yager Campbell

Age 97, Shenandoah, Va.

Paulina Yager “Polly” Campbell, 97, of Shenandoah, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Whispering Pines Assisted Living.

She was born on October 5, 1927, in Stanley and was a daughter of the late Paul Robert Yager and Mattie Belle Jones Yager.

Polly had worked as a secretary/executive assistant at Merck & Co. for 35 years and was a member of the Bethlehem Independent Christian Church. She was an active participant of the Republican Party since 1958. She held the position of secretary to the Republican State Central Committee for more than 45 years, where she met several dignified presidents, senators, attorney generals and congressmen of the United States. 

Polly was a member of the Page County Republican Party, having held the offices of vice chair, precinct chairperson, and secretary-treasurer of District V. In the late 1980s, she was presented the John Dalton Award for statewide contributions and participation.

Polly was also elected as a member of the Virginia Board of Nursing for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

On June 22, 1946, she married Loren Emerson Campbell, who died on January 6, 2015.

She is survived by a sister, Joyce Elkins of Luray; her closest family, including nieces Tammy Ritenour (Darris), Patricia Baugher (Larry), Margaret Buracker, and Jennifer Parsons (Ray); nephews Eddie Secrist (Janet), Paul Bear (Jane), and Steve Bear; and numerous great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis Yager and Charles Yager (infant); and a sister, Louise Bear.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
