Pettit named ‘Top Performer’ after winning four region titles to lift Panthers to championship

Indoor track athletes from PCHS, LHS competing at state meets this week

LURAY, March 3  — This week’s PVN “Athlete of the Week” honor goes out to a Page County High School junior who single-handedly captured four region titles and lead the Panthers to a Region 2B championship for indoor track.

Junior Braxton Pettit was the Region 2B Top Performer of the meet with 38 points. Pettit won FOUR individual region titles, including:

  • 1st — 55 meter hurdles, 7.62 seconds
  • 1st — 55 meter dash, 6.75 seconds
  • 1st — 300 meter dash, 39.97 seconds
  • 1st — long jump, 18’6.5″

Pettit was also the Region 1B runner-up in the triple jump (39’1/2″)

A total of seven Panthers won nine individual titles at the Region 2B indoor track meet held Feb. 17 at the Edward S. Long Jr. Track Complex within the Rockingham Recreation Center in Penn Laird.

PCHS head coach Brandon Brumfield was chosen as the Coach of the Year for Region 2B.

State qualifiers from the Page County boys and girls indoor track team will now head to the VHSL Class 2 state indoor track meet March 4-5 at Liberty University.

State qualifiers from Luray High School’s boys and girls indoor track team will also be competing in the VHSL Class 1 state indoor track meet this week at Liberty University.
