‘Pioneers of conservation’

Old country road

October 6, 1962 — John and Paul Shuler, who have been described as “pioneers of conservation in Page County,” were presented the annual Conservation Award for 1962 at the monthly meeting of the Shenandoah Valley Soil Conservation District Supervisors meeting at Belle Meade on Tuesday of this week. The Shuler farm was the first farm in the county to enter into agreement with the Soil Conservation District. This was “way back” in the fall of 1944. For 18 years Messrs. Shuler have remained active in the conservation movement. They operate a 300-acre beef cattle farm in the Grove Hill community.
