February 5, 1990 — Ellen Frymyer Powers of Richmond, formerly of Luray, was commissioned a lieutenant junior grade in the U.S. Navy Reserves Nursing Corps. Ms. Powers’ father, Arlis Frymyer, state vice commander of the American Legion, administered the oath of office. Ms. Powers is a graduate of Luray High School, James Madison University and the Medical College of Virginia and is an operating room nurse at the Medical College of Virginia Hospital in Richmond.
