Community members invited to voice opinions on Page County’s future

LURAY, Sept. 11 — The Page County Planning Commission and its comprehensive plan subcommittee are inviting community members to weigh in on the updated Page County Comprehensive Plan during a public engagement event. The meeting is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9, at the Stanley Fire Hall, located at 190 E. Main Street in Stanley.

During the meeting community members will have the opportunity to learn about work on the current draft, ask staff and subcommittee members questions and share feedback. Stations will be set up highlighting the plan’s different chapters, with multiple opportunities for public input.

WHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND

The Page County Comprehensive Plan serves as an essential guide for the future, providing a long-term vision and guiding framework that will help determine what the county will look like in 20 years and beyond. It is critical that the plan reflects the desires of the community and accurately reflects the future its members want. The plan is the community’s vision for itself, and the first step local officials should take in making land-use decisions.

The plan determines where development should go, which areas should be protected and what investments are necessary in public and private activities as they relate to land use and community facilities. It serves as the basis for land-use regulations; capital improvements for schools, parks and other public services; transportation investments; and environmental and historic resource protection.

The Oct. 9 event will officially kick off the Page County Comprehensive Plan Survey, another critical way that community members can provide feedback on the plan.
