November 27, 1889 — The preliminary surveys so far seem to favor Beahm’s Gap as the point at which the Washington R.R. will cross the Blue Ridge, thence northward down the eastward slope of the ridge at an easy grade, intersecting the S.V.R.R. at Vaughn’s Summit. This, however, as we have said is only preliminary, and we think when the compass settles the theodolite will show the natural point of intersection to be about a few rods east of the Tannery. What a fine place there for a grand union depot, and such fine surroundings in every direction for the town to “spread.”
