Ralph William Dorraugh, 84, of Elkton, passed away at his home peacefully on March 22, 2024, with family by his side. Born on September 10, 1939, in Luray, Virginia, Ralph William Dorraugh, was the son of Charles Russell Dorraugh and Frances Elizabeth May Dorraugh.
He grew up in a close-knit family and attended Shenandoah High School, where he graduated in 1957. After completing his education, Ralph began his career as an Instrument Mechanic at the DuPont Plant in Waynesboro, Virginia. He dedicated 43 years of service to the company, retiring in 2001. During his time at DuPont, Ralph was known for his hard work, dedication, and expertise in his field.
Ralph was a devoted member of several organizations throughout his life. He was a member of the Church of the Valley for many years. He was a 32nd Degree Master Mason and a dedicated member of Ashlar Lodge #125 in Shenandoah, Virginia. He also served as a faithful member of the Shenandoah Moose Lodge 2176 for many years, where he made many lasting friendships.
In his free time, Ralph enjoyed restoring his prized 1941 Ford Convertible car and showcasing it at local car shows. He also had a passion for gardening, spending countless hours tending to his beautiful flowers and vegetables. Ralph also loved finding unique antiques at area flea markets and decorating his home with festive decorations during the holidays, bringing joy to his family and friends.
On June 25, 1960, Ralph married his beloved wife, Nancy Estep. Together, they shared 55 years of love, companionship, and countless cherished memories. Nancy preceded Ralph in death on October 18, 2015. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers Junior Dorraugh and Richard Dorraugh; and a sister, Mary Ann White.
Ralph is survived by his loving son, William Keith Dorraugh of Elkton; his devoted daughter, Karen Ann Gooden, and her husband, Greg Gooden, of Grottoes; his cherished grandchildren, Abby Dorraugh of Thomasville, North Carolina, and Joshua Gooden and his wife, Serena Palmer, of Charlottesville, Virginia; his sisters, Peggy Raines of Grottoes and Joyce Good of Elkton; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Ralph’s kind heart, infectious smile, and unwavering love for his family and friends will be forever remembered and cherished. His memory will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched throughout his 84 years on this Earth.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at the Rest Haven Community Cemetery in Shenandoah, Virginia with Pastor Jacob Hensley officiating.
Arrangements are being handled by the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton, Va.
