Age 89, Elkton, Va.
Ray Elvin Williams, 89, of Elkton passed away on May 23, 2024 at his home. Mr. Williams was born June 18, 1934 in Elkton and was the son of the late Stuart Ashby Williams and Laura Lam Williams.
He moved to Northern Virginia at a young age. He served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division Fort Bragg from 1954-1957 as a parachutist.
He was a member of the Shenandoah Moose Lodge and the Eagles Club. He retired from R.J. Dwyer Mechanical Contractors Plumbing, Heating and A.C. in Alexandria where he was a supervisor for 30 years. After retirement, he returned to Elkton. He loved hunting, horse racing, antique cars and traveling.
Mr. Williams is survived by his daughter, Kimberley Purcell (Mark) of Fredericksburg; brothers Charles Lam and Ashby Williams (Sandy) of Elkton; sisters Shirley Morris (John) and Mary Robinson (Steve) of Elkton, Stella Turner of Shenandoah, Carolyn Frank (Rob) of Harrisonburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Joyce Morris and Jean Miller; brother Kenneth Williams; companion and caregiver Sharon Lawson Good.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton with Pastor Carter Dean officiating. Family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29. Interment will follow at Elk Run Cemetery.
