January 15, 1991 — Five members of the Shenandoah Town Council signed a resolution Thursday night opposing rezoning of land for a proposed bottled water plant. The council intended to present the resolution to the Page County Planning Commission Monday night. However, the meeting was cancelled due to inclement weather and was rescheduled for Feb. 4.

The resolution expressed the council’s opposition to the rezoning of some 222 acres outside the town corporate limits from agricultural to industrial use. According to the resolution, the town council believes that the drilling for any commercial wells within close proximity of the town’s well could threaten its existing water supply.

The town’s sole water source is from ground water. However, the town has offered to provide water to the industry “at a reasonable rate.”
