Age 82, Harrisonburg, Va.
Richard Wilson Lyons, 82, of Harrisonburg, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
Mr. Lyons was born October 26, 1941, in Arlington, VA, and was the son of the late Ernest Louis and Evelyn Choate Lyons.
Richard was employed at Spotswood High School in Penn Laird as the Boys Basketball Assistant Coach. He was a Life Member of the Virginia High School Coaches Association and National High School Athletic Coaches Association. Basketball was Richards life, he coached for 58 years. He coached at several different High Schools around Virginia, with Luray High School being the longest and numerous years at Albemarle High School. He also assisted at Shepard University and Averitt University.
He is survived by his companion of over 20 years, Jeneane Webster; son, Keo Lyons; daughters, Brianna, Yani and Kama Lyons; brother, Steve Lyons and wife, Anne, as well as grandchildren, Jaden Lyons, Atalli, Peyton and Dakota Shaw.
Services will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, Va.
