January 21, 1887 — The dwelling of Mrs. Asher Rickard, situate near Kimball, in this county, was destroyed by fire last Tuesday morning. The fire occurred about 7 o’clock, and originated, it is believed, from a defective flue. The dwelling was a very large frame building, worth, perhaps about $1,000. Mrs. R. and her sons, who live with her succeeded, we are glad to learn, in saving nearly all their household property.
The morning was very dry and cold, and the wind blew a perfect gale, making the work of destruction very rapid. There was no insurance, we regret to learn, upon the property, and it is another costly warning of the folly of people neglecting such protection.
