Robert Carroll “Bobby” Pence, 78, of Shenandoah, passed away Friday, March 14, 2025 at Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg. He was born June 2, 1946 in Shenandoah and was the son of the late Martin Russell and Helen Louise Comer Pence.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter, Roberta “Bobby Ann” Pence Lawson; and a brother, Jimmy Pence.
Bobby grew up near Shenandoah and attended Shenandoah Assembly of God Church, and Lily of the Valley Church. He enjoyed going to the Outer Banks for vacation and also took many cruises across the seas. Bobby was also an avid Nascar fan. He was a member of the Carpenters Union #388, and worked at North Anna Nuclear Power Plant for many years. As a contractor, Bobby built many beautiful homes and other projects that people will enjoy long into the future. Bobby had an exceptional sense of humor, and loved to make his friends and family laugh. He was wise with a wealth of knowledge about carpentry, fixing things, and life in general. Bobby was a devoted husband, an amazing dad, grandad, great-granddad, and loyal friend who will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
On October 24, 1970 he married Darlene Turner Pence, who survives.
Also surviving are daughters, Stephanie King and husband, David of Penn Laird, Ashley Telford and husband, Joseph of Chesapeake; brother, Larry Pence and wife, Cathy of Arlington; sisters, Phyllis Andrews of Shenandoah, Betty jo Merica and husband, Donnie of Elkton; grandchildren, Corbyn D. King, Bella Baldwin, Ava Baldwin, Selah Baldwin, Vanessa Howdyshell Roach; great-grandchildren, Jordan Roach and Haley Morris; a special friend and like a daughter, Shelly Lawson and her daughter, Monica; son-in-law, Sterling L. Lawson,; sister-in-law, Helen Pence.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at the Shenandoah Assembly of God Church in Shenandoah.
A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at the Shenandoah Assembly of God Church in Shenandoah, with Pastor Carter Dean and Pastor Dicky Campbell officiating. Burial to follow at the George Comer Cemetery on Naked Creek.

Family and friends are welcome to gather for a provided dinner after the service at the Shenandoah Assembly of God.
