Sandra Montgomery Rushing, 80, of Luray, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at the Sunnyside Retirement Community in Harrisonburg.
She was born on August 12, 1943, in Newport News and was the daughter of the late Russell Clay Montgomery and Julia Mae Rice Montgomery.
On June 12, 1970, she married James Callaway Rushing Jr., who survives.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Darlene Rushing Holland and husband Chuck of Lexington Park, Maryland, and Julie Carol Rushing and husband John Hale of Poulsbo, Washington; a son, James Callaway Rushing III of Luray and his partner, Jessica Markowitz; a brother, Russell R. Montgomery and wife Stacy of Luray; five grandchildren, Kristie Holland, Elizabeth Soehl, Jon Holland, Emma Soehl and Josh Holland; three great-grandchildren, Clarie, Elena and Anakin; a nephew, Michael Montgomery and wife Brittany; and a niece, Shannon Montgomery-Atkins and husband Todd Atkins.
Sandra had been an active member of Rileyville Baptist Church since 1986. Sandra retired from Shenandoah National Park in 2004, having previously worked for NASA, the Virginia State Police, and the Luray Caverns Corporation. She was an avid reader and scholar, loved babies and animals, and was devoted to her family.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, at the Bradley Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, at the Rileyville Baptist Church by the Rev. Dan Ellis. Interment will be at Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery in Luray.
