October 21, 1887 — Last Saturday, Mr. G.T. Sanford came into town and gave information against Joseph Dawson, who he alleged had made a criminal assault upon a daughter of his, aged about 12 years. Dawson at the time was working at the planing mill in East Luray, and the matter was kept quiet till a warrant could be issued when Wm. B. Campbell, armed with this document, went down and took him in charge and had him locked up. On Tuesday, he had a preliminary hearing before a Justice of the Peace, who committed him to await the action of the Grand Jury.
