Shelbey Jean Hilliards Alger, 67, of Luray, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2025, at her home.
She was born on April 30, 1958, in Harrisonburg and was the daughter of the late Isaac S. “Jay Bird” and Charlotte V. Turner Hilliards.
Shelbey was employed with Continuing Care Home Health for ten years before retiring. She enjoyed spending time with family.
On October 28, 1988, she married Cecil V. Alger who preceded her in death August 19, 2014.
She is survived by two daughters, Mindy J. Richards and husband, Charles, of Shenandoah and Charlotte Price and significant other, Tony, of Stanley; a grandson, Aaron Richards and wife, Nicole, of Luray; a granddaughter, Mekenize Richards of Shenandoah; two great-grandchildren, Grayson Smelser and Hudson Richards; three brothers, Jerry Lynn Hilliards and wife, Lori, Ricky Hilliards and wife, Vicky, and Shirley Hilliards and wife, Deana, all of Stanley; a sister, Joyce Dofflemyer and husband, Billy, of Elkton; the father of her children, Kenneth Price; and Cindy Dinges long term care giver.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 pm, Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Calvary Independent Brethren Church.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, July 11, 2025, at the church with Pastor Charles Turner officiating. Burial will be in Newport Cemetery.
