Hedrick completes four-year career at 81-28
~ PVN staff report
BRISTOL, March 1 — Page County High School junior Michael Shifflett took the podium and earned All-State honors after finishing in fifth place at the VHSL Class 2 state wrestling tournament held on Saturday, March 1 at Virginia High School in Bristol.
Shifflett made his second-straight appearance in the state tournament, going 4-2 in the 144-pound weight class during the one day tournament. The Page junior lost his last match to the defending state champion from Poquoson. His other loss was to the third-place finisher from Richlands.
PCHS senior Jordan Hedrick made his fourth-straight appearance to the state wrestling tournament over the weekend. Hedrick went 2-2 at state in the 175-pound weight class and ended a four-year record at Page with an overall record of 81-28.
“I was so proud of both of them. They fought their tail off,” PCHS wrestling coach Greg Martin said. “It was heartbreaking for senior grappler Jordan Hedrick as he would come up a little short from getting on the podium, but he had an awesome career. He would lose a tough match in the blood round, to be eliminated from competition.”
The Panthers lose four seniors next season — Kaylee Campbell, Mason Bennett, Jordan Hedrick, and MacKenzie Painter.
“I am going to miss those four seniors,” Coach Martin said. “They were leaders in the wrestling room, and their presence will be missed.”
