Shirley Hoak Huffman, 80, of Stanley passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025. She spent the last four years in memory care at Brookside Rehab and Nursing in Warrenton, VA.

Shirley was born on July 29, 1945 in Luray and was the daughter of the late Walter Jennings (Jack) Huffman and Katherine Hoak Huffman.

She was a 1963 graduate of Page County High School and worked at the Alliance Manufacturing Company. Shirley graduated from Radford College in 1972 and taught Physical Education courses in Washington County (Abington, VA) until 1975, when she enlisted in the U.S. Army. She served as an Army Specialist 5 and was stationed in Berlin, Germany. While there, Shirley received both the Good Conduct Medal 1st Award and Occupational Medal Berlin Sharpshooter M16 Award, and was honorably discharged in 1978. She moved to Weaver/Anniston, Alabama, where she resided for 30 years, and started her own pest control company. Upon retiring, she returned back home to Stanley, VA.

Shirley was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), American Legion, and Women’s Army Corps Veteran Association, all while remaining involved in many activities around the community. She was a die-hard Tennessee Volunteers fan, having personally met and had photos taken with Pat Summitt. She never missed a basketball game.

She is survived by two brothers, Francis W. Huffman of Luray, and Bruce (Jean) Huffman of Stanley, a niece, Dixie Huffman Sedwick of Luray, a great niece, Sarah Katherine (Josh) Kling, and a great, great niece, Claire Katherine Kling, all of Luray. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Jennings (W.J.) Huffman Jr. and sister, Susan Lee Huffman.

The family would like to thank everyone who asked about her well-being over the last few years, and offer an extended thanks to the memory/comfort care staff at Brookside for their special care of Shirley.

At her request, Shirley will be cremated with wishes to be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

An animal lover herself, Shirley was a regular donor to the Page County Animal Shelter. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to: Page County Animal Shelter, 1261 Goodrich Rd., Stanley, VA 22851.

Arrangements are being handled by The Bradley Funeral Home in Luray, Va.
