August 28, 1911 — John Hilliards, of Ingham, this county, for years a Lane Bros. foreman, killed a man recently near Jackson, Ky., in a shooting affray between members of the contractors camp and the natives. Trouble had existed for some time. During the shooting a bullet struck Hilliards’ house and to protect his family he stepped out and shot a man dead. It is a lawless section and Hilliards who is in jail cannot be bailed, though Lane Bros. have offered any amount required.
