Sold for $3

Luray Main St old

June 5, 1890 — We have just heard of a marriage which was to have taken place in the famed village of Blainesville, this county, but which was delayed a few days for a rather peculiar and unusual reason.

The young man thought the sea smooth, but just as he was about to enter port he encountered an obstacle altogether unsuspected, in the shape of a demand on the part of the girl’s mother for a fee of $3 for affixing her signature to the order for the license.

The young man protested, but in vain; the old lady was inexorable. The young man finally agreed to pay, but asked time, he didn’t have the cash.

These terms could not be accepted, so the event was postponed until last week, when the money was paid and the signature secured.
