May 22, 1986 — The former Stanley Town Office building was demolished last Wednesday after an agreement was reached between the town and Farmers and Merchants bank.
The town originally agreed to level the structure as part of the arrangement in taking over the former bank but wanted to do so over a period of time to save on expenses.
“They wanted it sooner than we could have had it done,” town manager Mike Hammer said. “The bank agreed to expedite things by paying someone.”
The bank intends to use the lot for parking.
