Stanley seeks help at park

Swimmers enjoy Stanley's Hawksbill Pool to beat the summer heat.

August 19, 1990 — Now that the Town of Stanley has purchased the Hawksbill Recreation Park, town leaders are seeking the help of local organizations and individuals.

Already, town crews have made improvements to the general grounds and much work has been done by Recreation Director Chuck Short to refurbish a cottage on the grounds. In addition, Bill and Hazel Mills rebuilt the kitchen on the second floor of the bathhouse with help from local businesses, groups and residents.

“I think the consensus is we want the pool open and we want it open next year if possible,”said Councilman Douglas Purdham. “We’re going to be calling on local volunteers and local manpower.”

  1. I’d love to see an article like this end with, “For more information about how to volunteer, contact __________ at ________.”
