State police investigating Saturday evening’s pedestrian fatality on Route 340

PAGE COUNTY, June 29 — Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred Saturday, June 29 at 9:45 p.m. on Route 340 in Page County.

A 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe was heading southbound on Route 340, near the intersection with Springfield Road, when it was unavailable to avoid striking a pedestrian attempting to cross Route 340. The pedestrian was not wearing reflective clothing.

The pedestrian, German A. Mercado-Mercado, 30, of Silver Spring, Md., died at the scene.

The driver of the Tahoe was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
