Strickler honored

March 12, 1964 — Nearly 100 friends and co-workers of Elbert H. Strickler of Luray joined in marking his retirement from the National Park Service at a dinner held at the Panorama Restaurant on the Skyline Drive. Mr. Strickler had completed over 29 years of Federal Service on Feb. 29.

At the time of his retirement, he held the position of Foreman II (garage) in Shenandoah National Park. Of the greatest significance was the presentation of acitation and bronze medal for commendable service. The citation pointed out that Strickler entered the Park Service July 22, 1939, as an automobile mechanic at Shenandoah, and in September 1956, he was promoted to garage foreman, the position he held when he retired on Feb. 29.
