Thomas Lee “Tommy” Delk, 65, of Shenandoah, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at the Sentara RMH Medical Center.
Mr. Delk was born on July 7, 1959, in Hampton, VA and was a son of the late Elwood Perry Delk and Evelyn Detroy (Pyron) Sly.
Tommy owned and operated a trucking service that contracted with the United States Postal Service as a regional mail carrier. He formerly worked as an over the road truck driver, and had visited more than 40 states. He enjoyed traveling and the beach. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family. Tommy’s proudest accomplishment was 34 years of sobriety.
Tommy is survived by his children, Jeremy Delk of Shenandoah, Lisa Marie Turner of New Market; second mother, Mary Jo “Red” Bowman; siblings, Robert Delk and wife, Karmen, Patricia Weisenberger and husband, Eddie, Carolyn Wilson and husband, Gordon, Tammy Batterman and husband, Ron, Bobby Sly, Dallas Sly, Jonathan Sly and wife, Judi; grandchildren, Ryan Turner, Jaxson Turner, Kaden Holsinger, Amelia Ellinger, Rowan Thomas Delk, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving is Walter Walker, a long-time friend, AA sponsor and a constant support.
In addition to his father and mother, Tommy was preceded in death by his brothers, Mike Delk, Ray Hoover, and his step-father, Elwood Sly.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening April 4, 2025, from 5 until 7 p.m., at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday April 5, 2025, at 11 a.m., at the Elkton Chapel of Kyger Funeral Homes with Pastors Jared Link and Dan Bassett officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg.
