Three years for insurance fraud, arson

Old country road

April 14, 1911 — William Runion was given three years by a jury at Harrisonburg last week for attempting to burn his house at Broadway for the insurance.

He had prepared a slow-burning device and after igniting the same left on a train for Harrisonburg. The fire was discovered before much damage was done, and the first information that Runion had of the fire, according to his statement, was an account of it in a newspaper.

His family had moved to Louisa and he was arrested at his home in that county.

He formerly lived near Bixler’s Ferry, this county.
