Age 90, Luray, Va.
Thurman Walter Richard, 90, of Luray, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Page Memorial Hospital.
He was born on August 6, 1934, in Virginia and was a son of the late Elvin Lee Hurt and Elizabeth Mandy Cubbage Hurt.
Thurman was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked as a maintenance supervisor for Shenandoah National Park, retiring with 30-plus years of service. He also owned and operated Richard’s Painting Service.
On September 8, 1954, Thurman married Phyllis Jeanette Miller Richard, who died on January 16, 2008.
He is survived by a daughter, Doris Richard Gray of Stanley; two grandchildren, Crystal Turner and husband Shandy Turner of Stanley, and Chad Gray and wife Jeanette Gray of Harrisonburg; three great-grandchildren, Breanna Turner of Stanley, Kelsey King and husband Eli King of Luray, and Ryan Gray and wife Haley Gray of Elkton; and three great-great-grandchildren, Braxton King of Luray, and Charlotte Gray and Owen Gray of Elkton.
He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Terry R. Gray.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, at the Bradley Funeral Home by Garland “Bubba” Gochenour, with visitation one hour prior to the service, from 1-2 p.m. Burial will be in the Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery in Luray, with military honors by the VFW Comer-Jones Post 621.
Memorial contributions may be made to a local fire department or rescue squad in his memory.
