Shenandoah river

July 1, 1965 — The Runyon-Windolph Exploration Company has obtained leases on 265 acres of land, located two and a half miles north west of Luray along the Shenandoah River on which they plan to explore for zinc, Richard Runyon, spokesman, said today.

Mr. Runyon said he is confident there is a large sulfide zinc ore body. He says he has not determined the size or the quantity, but that there is great promise.

Samples taken out have been valued at from $7 to $28 per pound.

Mr. Runyon lives at Timberville and is the son of the late Sterling Runyon, who discovered the Tri-State zinc mine at Timberville. He has been working in Page County territory since February. He will be associated in the exploration with John Windolph Jr.
