STAUNTON, Aug. 21 — The Virginia Department of Transportation has closed part of Route 684 (South Page Valley Road) in Page County due to a slope failure. The northbound lane of Route 684 is closed between 3.0 and 3.1 miles north of Route 675 (Bixler’s Ferry Road).

Traffic traveling in opposing directions on Route 684 will use the single southbound lane, with motorists taking turns at the “stop and proceed when clear” sign. Once repairs begin there may be occasional daytime full lane closures regulated by flaggers and on-site crews. This traffic pattern will remain until all slope repairs are complete.

Motorists are asked to drive with extreme caution. The slope failure is not visible from the road at night.

Crews and equipment will move to the slope failure site in early September to begin repairs. Work is anticipated to begin on September 3 and last approximately three weeks. Repair work will be conducted during daylight hours. All work is weather permitting.
