The fire did not spread into adjacent Shenandoah National Park as earlier reported, according to Luray firefighter Tim Lansberry. Early reports indicated that the blaze had spread into nearby woods and drew crews from the Forestry Department.

Firefighters were on the scene approximately three hours.

Route 211 East near Skyline Drive was briefly shut down while firefighters extinguished the flames, but was reopened around midnight.
