CHARLOTTESVILLE, March 24 — The Virginia High School League this week named two members of the 2024-25 Luray High School boys basketball team among the selections for the 2025 Class 2 All-State squad.
Junior Matthew Owens earned first team all-state honors just behind Class 2 Player of the Year Latrell Allmond of John Marhsall. A three-time, all-state first-teamer, the 6’9″ Allmond averaged 21.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game. The junior forward lead the Justices to a fourth-straight state title after defeating Luray in the state semifinals. Owens averaged about 18 ppg, was named Region B Player of the Year and earned second team all-state honors last season. Luray’s leading scorer also lead all scorers in both of the Bulldogs’ state playoffs games.
John Marshall earned two more first team selections in seniors Aiden Argabright and Troy Henderson. The four other first team selections included Floyd sophomore Noah Farley, Graham senior Markelle Ray, Nelson County senior Colton Ward, and Central of Wise senior Ethan Collins.
Luray senior Blake Jenkins earned second team all-state honors, along with the Bull Run District Player of the Year Dereck Batiz Lugo, a sophomore at Central of Woodstock.
Luray finished the season at 21-8 and among the top four teams in VHSL Class 2.
Allmond, the Class 2 Player of the Year, is the No. 45 overall recruit in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He’s also the No. 6 power forward and the No. 2 player in Virginia for the Class of 2026. He holds offers from numerous Power 4 schools, including Virginia, Michigan State, Tennessee, Oklahoma State, Rutgers, Ole Miss, Missouri, Texas A&M, Mississippi State, Georgia, Washington, Cincinnati, Kansas, Louisville, and others.
John Marshall head coach Ty White led the Justices to a 26-2 record and a fourth-straight state championship with a 107-81 win over Graham in the Class 2 finals. The 2023 Naismith National Coach of the Year has over 300 career wins. It’s his sixth VHSL Coach of the Year award and his team’s seventh state title since 2018. John Marshall won the Class 3 state title in 2018. It’s the Justices’ 13th state title overall.
Only those players selected to all-region first teams are eligible for selection to the All-State team. Each All-State selection committee comprises eight basketball coaches (two from each of four Regions).
