Lord Fairfax Health District and Valley Health conducting community health interview sessions across service areas
~ PVN staff report
WINCHESTER, Feb. 12 — Valley Health, in partnership with the Virginia Department of Health’s Lord Fairfax Health District, is reminding community members to complete the Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) survey before it closes at the end of February. Conducted every three years, these assessments identify priority health needs within our communities, ensuring Valley Health addresses the most pressing health concerns.
The two health agencies are conducting virtual, group interview sessions to better understand the community health needs of the Northern Shenandoah Valley. The insights gathered during these interviews provide additional context for the ongoing 2025 Community Health Assessment, which allows for local organizations, local governments and the community to best prioritize areas for community health improvement.
All residents are invited to participate in the ongoing CHNA survey. This is a valuable opportunity to voice opinions about community health needs. This input is crucial in helping shape health initiatives.
Two group interview sessions are scheduled for participants in February:
- Wednesday, Feb. 19 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and again from 3 to 4 p.m.
- Wednesday, Feb. 26 from 3 to 4 p.m.

“This process can only be informed by the voices of our community”, shares Tara Blackley, MA, MPH, MBA, District Director for LFHD. “Community health improvement requires consensus to prioritize the most pressing needs in our community and work together to develop solutions to the areas identified by our community.”
Following the assessment, each hospital within the Valley Health system will develop tailored implementation strategies to address the identified needs. These strategies aim to improve access to care, enhance health outcomes, and support the overall well-being of our community members.
“Valley Health is committed to improving the health and well-being of the communities we serve,” said Jason Craig, EdD, BCBA, Director of Community Health at Valley Health. “Our Community Health Needs Assessments and the resulting implementation strategies are critical tools in our efforts to address health disparities and ensure that everyone has access to the care they need.”
Valley Health is a not-for-profit health system serving a population of more than 500,000 in the Northern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, the Eastern Panhandle and Potomac Highlands of West Virginia, and western Maryland. As a healthcare provider, employer, and community partner, Valley Health is committed to improving the health of the region. The system includes six hospitals, more than 70 medical practices and Urgent Care centers, outpatient rehabilitation, medical transport, long-term care, and home health.
In addition to the interview sessions, the Community Health Assessment consists of an anonymous survey that takes about 5 minutes to complete and is available in English and Spanish. This survey is available for all residents to complete until Feb. 28. This survey can be accessed by visiting https://www.valleyhealthlink.com/survey.
