Age 76, Stanardsville, Va.
Velma Dean Crawford, 76, of Stanardsville Virginia, went into the presence of the Lord on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at her home. She was born August 13, 1948, and was the daughter of the late Dorsey Z. and Delilah Hensley Dean.
Velma was preceded in death by six brothers, Elmer, Kearney, Dennis, Hansford, Dahley, and Delta Dean; two sisters, Vida Merica and Geneva Good, and one great-granddaughter, Destiny Gregory.
She is survived by her daughter, April Rhodes and husband, David of Stanardsville; sons, Neal Crawford and wife, Donna of Troy, and Barry “Conrad” Crawford of Elkton. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, April Williams and significant other, Kevin Sheets, Jennifer Meadows and husband, Justin, Austin Meadows, Kaitlyn Bryant and husband, Jared all of Elkton, Zachary Crawford and wife, Melanie of Waynesboro, Lauren Crawford of Troy, and Samantha Morris of Shenandoah; 14 great-grandchildren, three great great-grandchildren; a brother, Shirley Dean, and sister-in-law, Arvonia Dean, both of Elkton.
Velma’s faith in God was unmovable. She could be heard singing her gospel songs even after she became bedridden and was no longer able to get up and about, her faith never wavered. She enjoyed visits from family and was always happy to have company. She also enjoyed getting cards in the mail.
A very special thank you to her sister-in-law, Wanda Hensley, who was true and faithful to send them every week. She looked forward to them and cherished each and every one she got. Also, a special thank you to mom’s hospice nurses, Julie Jones and Bonnie Tirrell, and to her physician, Dr. Bostic.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton with Pastor Josh Shifflett officiating. Interment will be private at Dean Family Cemetery in the Shenandoah National Park.
Anyone wishing to pay their respects may visit the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
