Volleyball earns second Region 1B title for LHS

Bulldogs host Region A champion in state quarterfinal 3 p.m. Saturday

LURAY, Nov. 8  — Luray High School earned its second region title in just 10 days when the volleyball team swept Buffalo Gap, 3-0, in the Region 1B championship on Saturday. That’s why — for the second week in a row — we have chosen a TEAM as our “Athletes of the Week.” The Bulldogs’ three wins throughout the region tournament were all certainly team wins.

After sweeping all three region matches, 3-0, Region B champion Luray (12-12) now hosts Region A runner-up Lancaster in a VHSL Class 1 state volleyball tournament quarterfinal at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15.

In other state quarterfinal round action, Region 1B runner-up Buffalo Gap (6-17) travels to Region A champion Middlesex; Region C champion Giles hosts Region D runner-up Patrick Henry; and Region D champion Chillhowie hosts Region C runner-up Auburn.

State quarterfinals and semifinals will be played at local sites (higher seed). All four quarterfinal round games will be played on Saturday, Nov. 15, with two semifinal matches on Tuesday, Nov. 18 and the state championship on Saturday, Nov. 22 at the Salem Civic Center.
