William “Billy” Ashby Grandstaff, 86, of Luray, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2025.

He was born on March 7, 1939, in Luray and was a son of the late Glendon Grandstaff Sr. and Anna Fox Grandstaff.

Billy dedicated over 30 years of his life to the Centel phone company, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to service. Beyond his career, he was deeply rooted in the agricultural life of the county, farming the land he loved from a young age. He raised both crops and cattle, playing a vital role in the local farming community and contributing significantly to the area’s agricultural heritage. His legacy is one of hard work, dedication and a deep connection to the land and people around him.

On July 3, 1958, he married Barbara Ann Brumback Grandstaff, who died on July 16, 2024.

He is survived by two sons, Dan Grandstaff and wife Tracey of Harrisonburg, and Jim Grandstaff and wife Renee of Luray; two daughters, Lisa Choat and husband Curtis, and Amy Weakley and husband Aaron, all of Luray; two sisters, Charlotte Gochenour of Luray, and Wanda Ricker of Stephens City; a brother, Lynn Grandstaff of Richmond; 11 grandchildren, Carrie Owens (Stevie), Aaron Grandstaff, Christa Dorrough (David), Micah Grandstaff (Colleen), Abigail Mitchell (Tyrell), Johnathan Choat (Ashley), Ashlee Campbell (Aaron), Cassie Lowery (Jordan), Allie Baroudi (Elias), Emilee Weakley, and Jakob Choat; and 11 great-grandchildren, Noah Lawson, Savannah Owens, Matthew Owens, Makenzee Owens, Paisley Grandstaff, Axel Dorrough, Landry Grandstaff, Hudson Lowery, Serenity Choat, Wells Lowery, and Colton Campbell. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Carroll Grandstaff, Waldo Grandstaff, Robert Grandstaff, and Glendon Grandstaff Jr.; and a sister, Catherine Hilliard.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 13, at the Mount Carmel Regular Baptist Church by Pastor Mike Nichols and Pastor Heath Kahlbau, with visitation one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 a.m. Burial will be in the Grandstaff Family Cemetery in Luray.
