26 local athletes competing at Class 2 state track and field championships at JMU

LHS, PCHS produce four Region 2B champions at May 23 track meet

ELKTON, May 23 — Following the Region 2B track and field championships at East Rockingham High School on May 23, a combined total of 26 athletes — between Luray and Page County high schools — qualified for the Class 2 state track and field championships being held at James Madison University this Friday and Saturday, May 31-June 1.

The two schools also combined to produce four Region 2B champions. After finishing as the region-runner in the 800-meter run last year, LHS junior Davey Johnson took first place in the event with a time of 1:59.02. LHS senior Hunter Kibler captured a region title in the 400 meters with a time of :51.55. PCHS senior Summer Kite was a region champion in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:44.7. The LHS boys 4×400 relay team also took home a region title (3:31.72).

The two Region 2B runner-ups included LHS senior Josh Nuckols in the 800-meter run (2:04.52); and PCHS senior Elizabeth Ramos in the discus (96-10).

Among other Top 5 finishers at region were:

3RD PLACE — LHS junior Quintyn McNeal, 200 meters (:22.83); LHS junior James Farrow, 110-meter (:16.16) and 300-meter (:43.05) hurdles; LHS boys 4×800 relay team (8:51.10); LHS junior Annah Whitmer, 800-meter run (2:29.63); and PCHS senior Elizabeth Ramos, shotput (30-01.5).

4TH PLACE — PCHS sophomore Aaron Hensley, 3200 meters (10:44.79); and PCHS senior Jenna McKay, high jump (4-08).

5TH PLACE — PCHS freshman Braxton Pettit, 110-meter hurdles (:16.59); LHS boys 4×100 relay (:45.17); LHS freshman Mya Jenkins, 3200-meter run (13:39.48); LHS sophomore Reese Fitton, long jump (15-06).

Luray and Page combined to produce an additional 19 Top 10 finishers at the Region 2B meet.
