Apple butter

November 13, 1965 — For some 15 years or more now the members of the Seventh-Day Adventist of the Town of Stanley have been engaged in Apple Butter Boiling each fall of the year. This project was started with the ministry of Elder John Lohr and continued through the ministry of Elder Clough, Elder Schooley and now beginning its first year with Elder Clarence Schram.

Over 1,300 gallons of apple butter are boiled annually and this is not nearly enough to supply the demand for this delicious butter. This apple butter is shipped as far west as California and east as New Jersey.

It has been a practice of the church for many years to prepare the apples on the eve of boiling and for this occasion more than 50 members of the church will gather in the social hall of the school to help with the work. The next day, bright and early, six large copper kettles of apples and other ingredients necessary may be seen nicely boiling while some stir in rhythm strokes all day. The profits from this adventure is divided between the church and the church school and used wherever most needed.
